Getting Started in Brisbane Community Sports Leagues: Registration Steps and Options
Urban Rec Brisbane and other local groups provide clear pathways for individuals and teams to join 10-week or year-round competitions in netball, soccer and more.
How we reported this

Urban Rec Brisbane runs 10-week inclusive seasons in soccer, netball, basketball, AFL, pickleball and multisport at venues including UQ, Southbank and Milton, with team fees ranging from $349 to $1,099.
Individual entry through Just Play and Meetup groups
Just Play slots single players into existing teams for dodgeball, netball and basketball when a season has not yet begun. The Brisbane Social Sport Group on Meetup arranges teams for netball, basketball, soccer and dodgeball that welcome both enthusiasts and first-timers.
Year-round and university-based options
Braza Community Futsal League operates year-round at South Pine Sports Complex in Brendale with Wednesday games from 7:30pm and a $90 weekly team fee for each 16-week season. Griffith University runs a social indoor volleyball league for individuals at its Mt Gravatt campus on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, while SportUP fields more than 50 competitions across 13 premium venues where individuals can register directly.
Indoor competition scale and UQ facilities
Brisbane City Indoor Sports hosts Australia’s largest indoor sports competition with over 850 teams in netball, soccer, dodgeball, basketball, cricket and rebound beach volleyball. UQ Sport schedules three annual social sport seasons with registration windows in January-March, May-July and October-November, and the new $4.2 million Pavilion at UQ St Lucia in Building 53C supports AFL and soccer clubs.
Prospective participants check current season status on each organisation’s site, confirm team or individual fees, and select a sport and location that matches their availability. Drop-in sessions at community centres and parks provide low-commitment starting points before committing to a full season.
