Brisbane Youth Sports Venues Strengthen Local Pathways
Dedicated facilities and school partnerships are expanding opportunities for young athletes in the city.
How we reported this

The Pavilion, a new $4.2 million multi-sport venue at the University of Queensland St Lucia campus, opened in July 2026 to serve the university's AFL and Soccer Clubs. This addition forms part of broader infrastructure supporting youth sport across Brisbane.
The Pavilion at University of Queensland
The facility at St Lucia provides purpose-built space for AFL and soccer, directly benefiting student athletes who progress through youth programs. Its opening in July 2026 aligns with ongoing efforts to improve access to quality training environments for players aged under 18.
Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre Usage
Schools including St Thomas More College and Brisbane State High School schedule athletics carnivals at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre. These events allow students to compete in track and field while building toward higher-level competitions, with the venue serving as a central hub for youth development in the sport.
School Partnerships and Programs
The Brisbane Bullets have partnered with Beenleigh State High School in Logan City to support student development on and off the court. Separately, the Take it to the Streets program delivers free training sessions in 3x3 basketball, 3v3 soccer, pickleball, Boxfit and Esports for participants aged 13 to 18 across Brisbane's north, recording over 130 participants in 2025. Sports-X Brisbane contributes by coaching more than 4,000 children aged 3 to 15 each week nationwide.
Breaking Festival Infrastructure
The Brisbane World Breaking DanceSport Festival 2026 placed youth categories at the centre of competition in January 2026, giving athletes ranking points toward the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 and demonstrating how existing venues accommodate emerging disciplines.
These venues and partnerships continue to provide structured environments that connect young people with coaching and competition. Local organisations can explore integration of new facilities like The Pavilion into existing school and community schedules to sustain participation growth.
