Youth Categories Headline Brisbane Breaking Festival Breakdown
January 2026 event placed young athletes at the forefront with qualification pathways on the final day.
How we reported this

The Brisbane World Breaking DanceSport Festival 2026 placed its youth categories on the final day in January, giving athletes the chance to earn WDSF ranking points toward qualification for the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.
Breaking Festival Youth Day Structure
The event structure centred the youth divisions at the close of the program, allowing competitors to focus on ranking accumulation after earlier senior sessions. This sequencing created a clear progression for younger participants seeking international selection pathways. The final-day emphasis aligned directly with the calendar leading into the Dakar Games later in 2026.
Northern Brisbane Training Runs
Take it to the Streets delivered free sessions in 3x3 basketball, soccer, pickleball and Esports for participants aged 13 to 18 across Boondall, Zillmere and Bracken Ridge. The recent northern Brisbane run recorded over 130 participants and supplied direct skill development in the same suburbs that feed into larger city-wide youth events. These programs complement festival-style competitions by building entry-level experience ahead of ranking events.
State and Club Partnerships
In December 2024 the QLD Government partnered with Brisbane Roar FC to expand the Football in the Community Program, targeting more than 10,000 young Queenslanders through 270-plus clinics and outreach activities scheduled for 2025. Separately, Brisbane Bullets established a partnership with Beenleigh State High School in Logan City to support student development on and off the court. Both initiatives supply structured pathways that feed athletes toward events such as the Breaking Festival and subsequent Olympic qualification cycles.
With the 2026 festival concluded, attention now turns to ongoing delivery of the Take it to the Streets sessions and the 2025 clinic schedule as athletes prepare for the next qualification windows.
