The council runs a 'spotlight' initiative that actively promotes and showcases small businesses across the city. As part of this effort, the public 'Business in Brisbane' Facebook group was relaunched and now counts more than 3,482 local business owners as members as of June 2025. The group serves as a networking hub where operators can share tips, promote their services and connect with one another.

A practical example of the spotlight program in action is the 'Stallholder Spotlights' featured at Brisbane Markets. One such business is Everest Wool, a family-run micro-enterprise that sells fair trade handmade products at the Saturday Fresh Market. During Queensland Small Business Month in May 2026, the Lord Mayor celebrated 44 finalists and awarded 11 businesses in the 19th Lord Mayor's Business Awards. The awards include dedicated categories for Small Business and Micro Business, ensuring that even the smallest operators have a chance to be recognised for their contribution to the local economy.

There is also free co-working space available at the Suburban Business Hub, providing a professional environment for entrepreneurs who may not have their own office.

Access to funding is another critical area of support. The council's Funding Finder tool gives businesses access to information on over 2,000 grants worth a combined $58 billion, helping owners navigate the often-complex landscape of government financial assistance.
