Brisbane City Council set adult entry at $8 for the July Winter Markets at South Bank Parklands, with the gates opening on July 12.

The fee covers access to 120 stalls across the lawns near the Brisbane River, a shift from the free entry model used in prior years. The change arrives as winter visitor numbers rise and the council faces higher maintenance costs for the site after last season’s record crowds.

Stalls line the paths between the Cultural Centre and the Goodwill Bridge, while a second cluster sits inside the Brisbane Powerhouse grounds in Newstead. Both sites require the same ticket, which can be bought on site or through the council’s online portal before arrival.

TransLink data from June shows a single adult bus or train fare from the CBD to South Bank costs $5.60, with the journey taking 12 minutes on the Beenleigh line. Parking at the South Bank underground facility starts at $7 for the first hour and rises to $22 for four hours on weekends.

Breaking down the fees

Children under 12 enter free when accompanied by an adult. Concession tickets sit at $5.50. Stallholders pay a separate $65 daily site fee, a figure released in the council’s May budget papers. No cash is accepted at the gates; only contactless cards or the council app work.

Getting there and practical steps

Trains stop at South Brisbane station, a four-minute walk to the main gate. Buses 196 and 199 run every 10 minutes from Queen Street Mall during market hours. Visitors should download the TransLink app for real-time alerts, as trackwork on the Merivale Bridge is scheduled for two weekends in July. Gates close at 9 pm each night, and re-entry requires a new scan of the ticket QR code.

Pack a reusable bag for purchases and check the weather app for the 14-degree overnight low before heading out. The council advises arriving before 11 am to avoid the afternoon rush on nearby streets.
