Brisbane bus routes rack up 741 cancellations in seven days amid ongoing network strain

In the most recent seven-day period the total reached 741 cancellations across South East Queensland, with Brisbane routes accounting for the largest share.
The figures matter now because daily alerts have already climbed above 200 on several weekdays this month, and the pattern shows technical faults and construction work driving most of the short-notice changes. Commuters relying on frequent services face repeated gaps in timetables that affect work, school and appointment travel across the city.
Route 700 recorded the highest number of cancellations at 31, followed closely by the 100 with another 31. Other heavily affected Brisbane services include the 777 with 30 cancellations and the 444 with 29. Buses accounted for 1481 of the alerts logged in the period, far outnumbering those tied to stations or trains.
Causes behind the numbers
TransLink attributed 860 alert-days to construction works and 206 to technical problems. Maintenance accounted for 177, while accidents and demonstrations made up smaller shares. Twenty-five per cent of all alert-days were tagged as planned works rather than unexpected failures on the day.
Brisbane and surrounds logged 1558 total alerts, including 1022 classed as major. The Ferny Grove line led train cancellations with four services removed, ahead of the Ipswich line with three.
