Adult tickets for the Brisbane Winter Markets at South Bank Parklands now cost $18 on weekdays and $22 on weekends, with the season opening on 11 July 2026.

The pricing shift matters because Brisbane City Council adjusted fees last month to cover expanded security and waste services after attendance jumped 15 percent last winter. Residents in surrounding suburbs face higher overall trip costs when combining entry with public transport during peak evening hours.

Local venues and programs

Markets run along the river edge near the Wheel of Brisbane and extend into the cultural forecourt opposite the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Nearby, the Brisbane Powerhouse in Newstead offers a linked evening program of live music that accepts the same ticket for discounted re-entry after 7pm. The Eat Street Markets in Hamilton run a shuttle bus every 30 minutes from the South Bank ferry terminal on Friday and Saturday nights.

Brisbane City Council’s winter events team reported 312,000 visitors across the 2025 season, with average spend per person at $47 once food and drink purchases were included. A single adult Mytransit card fare from Fortitude Valley to South Bank currently sits at $4.74 during off-peak times, rising to $7.12 after 7am on weekdays.

Practical steps before travel

Buy tickets online through the council portal at least 24 hours ahead to avoid the $5 on-site surcharge. Check the TransLink app for real-time ferry disruptions at the South Bank terminal, particularly on weekends when services from Bulimba run every 15 minutes. Families can access the $45 group pass that covers two adults and two children, valid only for the South Bank site and not transferable to the Newstead venue.

Arrive before 5pm on weekdays to secure free street parking along Stanley Street Plaza, as paid lots near the Cultural Centre fill by 6pm. The markets close at 10pm nightly, with last ferry departures at 10:30pm from the terminal directly opposite the main gate.
