Sponsored content policy
What we mean by "sponsored content"
Sponsored content is any article, newsletter placement, video, image, audio or social post on The Daily Brisbane where a third party has paid us — in money or in kind — for the placement, or where editorial direction has been provided by a commercial partner. This includes advertorials, branded content, native ads, sponsored events coverage, paid reviews, and product placements.
How we label it
- Every sponsored article carries a clear, prominent label — "Sponsored", "Partner content", "Paid post" or "Advertisement" — shown above the headline and again in any social or newsletter promotion.
- The sponsoring brand is named in the byline area, not only in fine print.
- Sponsored content uses visual styling (background colour and a "Sponsored" badge) that is distinguishable from editorial reporting at a glance.
- Newsletter placements include the word "Sponsored" or "Partner" in the section heading.
Editorial independence
Our editorial coverage is independent of our commercial relationships. Advertisers and sponsors have no right of review or approval over unrelated editorial stories. Where a sponsor is also the subject of news coverage, that coverage is produced by editorial staff with no input from the commercial team and is clearly separated from any paid placement.
Affiliate links and commissions
Some articles may contain affiliate links. Where they do, we disclose that The Daily Brisbane may earn a commission if you make a purchase, and we choose products on editorial merit, not commercial value.
Accuracy and substantiation
Sponsored claims must be accurate, capable of substantiation, and comply with Australian Consumer Law, including the prohibitions on misleading or deceptive conduct and false representations about goods or services. We reserve the right to decline or amend sponsored content that we believe falls short of that standard.
Categories we do not accept
We do not accept sponsored content promoting tobacco, illegal gambling, predatory lending, weapons, or content that misrepresents itself as independent journalism. We also do not accept content designed to disguise political advertising; any political content carries an authorisation line.
Complaints and corrections
If you believe a piece of sponsored content on The Daily Brisbane is misleading, inadequately labelled, or inaccurate, contact us via our contact page. We respond to complaints within five business days and will correct, relabel or remove content where appropriate.
Regulator
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is the primary regulator for misleading or deceptive conduct in advertising. More information: accc.gov.au/business/advertising-and-promotions.
