The 2026 climbing season is officially underway in Brisbane, with the city's thrill-seekers gearing up for a series of high-adrenaline competitions and events that will push their skills to the limit.

This matters now because the sport of climbing has experienced a significant surge in popularity over the past few years, with the inclusion of sport climbing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics further fueling its growth. As a result, Brisbane's climbing community is more vibrant than ever, with a plethora of indoor and outdoor climbing facilities, clubs, and organizations catering to all levels of experience and interest.

In Brisbane, climbers can be found scaling the walls at facilities such as the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, the Riverlife Adventure Centre in Kangaroo Point, and the Brisbane Bouldering Centre in Woolloongabba. The Brisbane Rock Climbing Club, which has been in operation since 1964, offers its members access to a range of outdoor climbing locations, including the Glass House Mountains and the nearby Binna Burra mountain range. The club also hosts regular competitions and events, including the annual Brisbane Boulderfest, which attracts climbers from all over the country.

Season Preview: What to Expect

According to data from the Queensland Climbing Association, the number of climbers participating in outdoor climbing activities in Brisbane has increased by 25% over the past two years, with over 10,000 people taking part in climbing events and competitions in 2025 alone. The association also reports that the average cost of a climbing lesson or guided climb in Brisbane is around $80, although prices can range from $50 to over $200 depending on the provider and the type of climb. With the 2026 season shaping up to be one of the biggest yet, climbers can expect a range of exciting events and competitions, including the Australian Lead Climbing Championships, which will be held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in September, and the Brisbane Boulderfest, which will take place in November.

As the season heats up, climbers looking to take their skills to the next level can take advantage of a range of training programs and workshops on offer in Brisbane. The Brisbane Rock Climbing Club, for example, offers a range of coaching and training programs, including a beginner's course that starts at $120 for a six-week program. The Riverlife Adventure Centre also offers a range of climbing courses and workshops, including a popular 'climbing for beginners' course that costs $90 for a two-hour session. With so many options available, there's never been a better time to get involved in Brisbane's thriving climbing scene.
