Brisbane residents can walk into free mental health sessions at the South Bank Parklands community hub and the New Farm Park wellness centre without referrals or fees.
July demand for these services has risen after winter reports showed increased anxiety among workers along the Brisbane River corridor. Outdoor fitness routines at South Bank have long drawn crowds, yet many now seek added support for ongoing pressure from work and family routines.
The South Bank Parklands hub on Stanley Street Plaza runs drop-in groups every weekday morning from 9am. Staff there offer guided breathing exercises and short talks on daily stress. New Farm Park on Sydney Street hosts similar free sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am, with space for up to thirty people on the grass near the rotunda. Both locations sit within easy reach of the Brisbane Riverwalk for those who combine a walk with their visit.
A 2025 Queensland Health report recorded 38,400 visits to these and similar no-cost programs across the city last financial year. Attendance grew 12 percent from the prior period, with the largest share coming from adults aged 25 to 44 living in inner suburbs.
Anyone can arrive at either site during listed hours and register at the front desk with only a name and suburb. Staff direct new visitors to the next available group or one-on-one chat. Those who prefer a phone start can call the Brisbane City Council mental health line on 07 3403 8888 to confirm times before heading out. Regular attendance at these sessions has helped many keep routines steady through the cooler months.
